How can we help you?
We have used our experience and input from customers to create a FAQ section that we hope will answer most questions. Simply type the keywords of your query into the box to search our database. If the specific answer is not presented, then please do just contact us and let us know your query as after we have answered it for you it may become the latest addition to this page.
As a natural product the look of each live edge item will vary from the images online with no two items the same. Natural markings and openings in the grain are all part of their beauty and charm. We provide images of the available live edge furniture options to enable our customers to select their preferred item for their home.
It also means that the product will change over time depending upon usage, care, the interior humidity levels of your home and the natural aging process of the wood. These changes may include the appearance of cracks as the wood adapts to its surroundings. Our products are kiln dried at manufacture to remove moisture to a level required for furniture making and once in the UK, each item is stored in our warehouse for further acclimatisation. Prior to despatch all go through a quality check and preparation process before they are despatched to ensure that they meet our standards and that any markings or cracks in the wood are not deemed to be detrimental to the structural integrity of the item.
Any movement or cracks that appear once your item is in your home rarely affects the structural integrity of the furniture but may result in some light sanding should an opening appear with slightly rough edges.
The standard delivery service for all live edge bench only orders is a palletised service. This means that responsibility for transporting the item from the palletised kerbside delivery to your property is the customers (please refer to delivery information and FAQs for additional information). Benches will arrive assembled.
The standard delivery service for all live edge tables and live edge sets is a 2-man team who will deliver the item into a ground floor location in your property. The typically live edge table will weigh between 60kg and 100kg depending upon the size ordered.
Tables will arrive unassembled for ease of transportation into the property. It is the customers responsibility to ensure that there is sufficient access and parking to enable the delivery to be successfully completed. As a minimum this will require access to park a long wheelbase van at your property or immediately outside of it and at least 74cm width access into and throughout the property with no sharp turns.
You should advise our customer support team of any potential internal and external access restrictions so that we can support in trying to ensure a successful delivery first time.
It is recommended that heat resistant protective mats and coasters are always used to minimise the risk of markings from hot plates, food and drinks spillages.
To provide additional protection and moisture retention to limit the potential for movement then we would recommend considering 2 methods of treatment: Coconut oil, or Danish oil. Prior to using any products on your live edge furniture please read the instructions for use by the specific manufacturer.
Danish oil will provide a finish with more of a sheen but longer-term better protection, suitable for a frequently used family dining table. It is recommended that heat resistant protective mats and coasters are still used to minimise the risk of markings from hot plates, food and drinks spillages. Please check our social feeds to see examples of furniture treated with the Danish oil.
Follow the instructions given with the oil purchased, it can be applied onto the bare wood, the method of every day for a week, every week for a month then every month for a year is best practice.
Coconut oil gives a lower sheen and is quite easy to apply. Warm the oil slightly in a bowl of hot water so it is just beginning to melt and apply to the bare wood with a lint free cloth. This activity is recommended 2 to 3 times the first week that you receive the table, be careful not to over apply and buff up with a dry cloth when you have finished treating it. You can top this up and buff out any heat marks or otherwise when needed. Whilst it does not give the same level of protection as danish oil it is very forgiving and a natural partner to the wood itself, food safe and a great eco-friendly treatment.
It is recommended that heat resistant protective mats and coasters are still used to minimise the risk of markings from hot plates, food, and drinks spillages.
If you wish to apply any other type of sealant or treatment, please test on a discreet underside area first to check the result. Also follow instructions on all treatments carefully, we cannot be held responsible for the results of any treatment used that we have not used ourselves.
If during the treatment process a slight ‘furring’ on the wood occurs, then this is just the fibres reacting to the initial treatment and usually sanding with a light sandpaper grade will remove these.
Please note that your live edge may move and grains still open even with treatment due to the amount of wood in each table.
